Nursing specialist Always on the spot as an all-rounder

Since 2020, the designation "nursing specialist" has combined the previously separate training courses in health care and nursing, children's nursing, geriatric nursing and curative education into one. Nursing specialists are therefore extensively trained in several different areas.

What are the tasks?

Nursing professionals help people in need of care with personal hygiene and food intake, they measure blood pressure, change bandages if necessary, treat wounds and observe the body functions and sleeping patterns of patients. They are often supported by nursing assistants. In addition, nursing professionals also provide mental and emotional support to those in need of care and their relatives.

What are the requirements?

Within their three-year training, nursing specialists learn everything about the professional fields of nursing and geriatric care and can then decide in which area they would like to work. The prerequisite is a Realschulabschluss or a Hauptschulabschluss in combination with a completed vocational training in nursing. Furthermore, a medical certificate of health suitability, a police clearance certificate and possibly a preliminary internship are required. The work as a nursing specialist is very demanding, requires a high degree of responsibility and great empathy. As a nurse you will be caring for a wide variety of patients and should be able to respond to their needs. Good communication skills and a friendly manner are therefore enormously important here.
