Elderly care assistant Help in coping with everyday life in old age

Geriatric care assistants (m/f/d) support geriatric nurses (m/f/d) in all activities related to the care and nursing of elderly people so that they can lead an active and self- determined life even in old age.

What are the tasks?

Elderly care assistants are there for older people and help them with all everyday things. They take on nursing tasks such as helping with personal hygiene, dressing and undressing, preparing meals or eating. They administer medication, ensure that the elderly are properly reburied and also stand by the elderly in difficult life situations, for example after the death of a partner. They encourage people to take part in sports, walks or cultural activities, establish contact with social services and authorities and help them fill out forms and applications.

What are the requirements?

Geriatric care assistants should enjoy working with people and have high social skills. A lot of patience and empathy is required, as old people need a lot of help, motivation and often a conversation partner. Practically minded people who are resilient, responsible, careful and reliable are in demand. In addition, they should have an interest in medical as well as nursing tasks and have a good physical constitution, for example, for moving patients.
