The profession of truck driver (m/f/d) falls under the state-recognised occupational title of professional driver. Truck drivers (m/f/d) work in freight transport and transport goods of all kinds on the road.

What are the tasks?

Truck drivers transport various goods on the road on behalf of transport companies, freight forwarding companies or courier services. They also drive other heavy commercial vehicles such as articulated lorries, road trains or tankers. They take care of the loading and unloading of the goods or supervise these activities, ensure that the weight of the load is evenly distributed and check the papers to be carried. In addition, their tasks include planning routes, transport and rest times, checking safety and vehicle maintenance.

What are the requirements?

The basic requirement for the profession of a truck driver is the possession of a driving licence class C or CE, which entitles the holder to drive heavy commercial vehicles. Knowledge of the road traffic regulations and the valid regulations on weights and dimensions of the transport vehicles driven are also very important. A sense of responsibility, prudence and the ability to concentrate are also important. These are necessary, for example, when checking operational safety, observing driving times and when manoeuvring. They also need technical understanding and knowledge of motor vehicle mechanics to operate and check the vehicles.
