A plant mechanic for sanitary and heating technology installs or dismantles heating or sanitary systems. This also includes connecting technical supply systems to existing supply lines for water and electricity. Plant mechanics are often called in to find the causes of faults and rectify them. The technical basics include drilling, screwing and welding to fasten systems, but also the production of pipes, sheet metal and profiles.

What are the requirements?

The work as a plant mechanic for sanitary and heating technology is preceded by a three-year to three-and-a-half-year apprenticeship, for which a secondary school leaving certificate is expected. You should have a good technical understanding and work very carefully and responsibly. This is especially important when working on gas systems or similar. Plant mechanics must also be familiar with the electronic control devices and assemble them. This requires a sure instinct!
