Crane operator Lifting, moving and setting down

Crane operators (m/f/d) operate, guide and maintain crane systems of all types. They are responsible for ensuring that loads are hooked in correctly and that they reach their intended locations safely with the crane.

What are the tasks?

Crane operators operate cranes on construction sites of all kinds, such as building construction, civil engineering or road construction projects. To do this, they lift the loads with the crane, transport them through the air and set them down again at the intended location. Throughout the process, they are responsible for securing the loads safely and must also compensate for wind and swaying movements. They know the maximum permissible weight as well as the load-bearing capacity of the crane ropes and communicate with their work colleagues by radio and with international hand signals.

What are the requirements?

Working as a crane operator requires the highest level of concentration, a high sense of responsibility and risk awareness, as well as reliability, so that accidents do not occur. The Employer's Liability Insurance Association has therefore stipulated that every crane operator must present a certificate of competence. The certificate of competence, also known colloquially as the "crane licence" or "crane operator's licence", requires a theoretical and practical examination, as the risks associated with improper operation are enormous. Technical understanding, good hand-eye coordination and a head for heights are also required.
