Bricklayer Stone upon stone

Bricklayers take care of everything related to the building shell - from laying the foundation to plastering the walls. In addition to new construction, bricklayers also deal with renovation and repair work.

What are the tasks?

As a bricklayer, you usually work on the basis of building plans and construction drawings. They calculate the material required and assemble all the necessary tools and machines. Bricklayers build foundations, concrete walls and plaster, plaster, grout or sheathe them. Bricklayers are also responsible for identifying structural damage and its cause and carrying out repair work.

What are the requirements?

Training as a bricklayer takes 3 years. The prerequisite for this is a Hauptschule or Realschule certificate. Future bricklayers should have a particular interest in practical activities, manual dexterity and a good sense of proportion. In addition, they are often under heavy strain and work in different weather conditions and at different heights. Reliability and accuracy are therefore prerequisites in this profession.
